The First Visit – What To Expect
Are you new to the area? Is your dentist retiring? Are you seeking a new dental home for your family? Our warm, honest, and caring team is led by a more than 20-year industry veteran, Dr. Chris Wujick. Our team at Boulevard Dental Bellair is committed to exceptional care and to empowering our patients with the information they need to be active participants in their oral health, which is vital to their overall health, including information to start your relationship with us off on the right foot!Â
How do I prepare for my first visit?
We strive to make the experience as easy as possible. However, we do need to get up to speed on factors that could affect the condition and state of your teeth and gums – such as any medical conditions you may have or medicines you take to control them. For this reason, we ask that you complete the paperwork with the health and medication questions. If you’ve been to another dentist before us, we’ll need to have your dental records and any recent X-rays transferred from that office to us. It’s also important to provide us with insurance information if you have dental coverage. For those without dental insurance, we are happy to discuss alternatives, such as our easy, money-saving in-office membership plan.Â
What if I’m nervous?
We appreciate that fears about visiting the dentist can keep many people from getting the care they need to stay healthy. It’s important to express any worries or concerns that you may have before your appointment. By letting us know this in advance, we can prepare for you and ensure any sources or triggers of anxiety are addressed. As needed, Dr. Wujick may discuss medications to keep you relaxed during your visit.

What happens when I get to the office?Â
After we ensure all paperwork is complete, our team reviews these items and may ask you additional questions. It’s also a great opportunity to share any concerns you may have, such as changes in your mouth or symptoms. The next step is the dental cleaning. Our professional cleaning is different from the brushing and flossing that you do at home. Our dental hygienists are trained in specialized techniques and use specialized dental instruments to gently and completely remove disease-causing substances you can’t remove with a brush or floss, such as stubborn plaque buildup or tartar. After your teeth are clean, Dr. Wujick performs a comprehensive exam to assess the condition of your teeth, gums, jaw joints, and other parts of your mouth and face.Â
What are you looking for during an exam?
Dr. Wujick looks for potential signs of many issues by sight and/or by touch, including:
- Enamel erosion
- Cavities
- Infections
- FracturesÂ
- Gum inflammation and damage
- Pre-cancers and oral cancers
- Bruxism (teeth grinding)
- TMJ disorders
Will I need X-rays?Â
It depends on when you last had your X-rays. Most patients get X-rays either annually or every two years. The answer to this question also generally depends on what Dr. Wujick finds during your exam. Many things cannot be seen or identified with the eyes and by touch alone. X-rays help us better understand your needs, so we can resolve any pain or symptoms you may be having and treat problems before they become bigger issues.Â
