How long do crowns last?

Because our crowns are made from premium materials and held to the highest quality standards, they should last for years as long as you take good care of them. Our crowns are designed to look, feel, and function like natural teeth. They should also be cared for like natural teeth, which means that you should:

Make sure to brush your teeth at least twice daily with a soft-bristle toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste.
Floss between your teeth each day to remove food particles your toothbrush misses.
Maintain routine dental checkups at least every six months so that Dr. Wujick can assess the condition of your crown and neighboring teeth. He is trained to detect problems early before they cause severe damage.
Get your teeth cleaned by one of our dental professionals. Your good brushing and flossing are no substitute for a professional cleaning by one of our dental hygienists. Our hygienists are uniquely trained and equipped to remove stubborn plaque and other disease-causing substances in hard-to-reach places that cannot be removed or that might go missed when brushing and flossing.
Avoid any habits that might endanger your crown. These habits include using your teeth as tools to open packages or regularly biting down on hard objects, such as ice.
Wear a nightguard if you grind your teeth. Nothing quite shortens the lifespan of crowns and other restorations quite like this condition, known as bruxism. Our nightguards are custom-fitted to your mouth and designed to protect your natural and restored teeth.

What happens if my crown gets damaged?

During checkups, Dr. Wujick monitors for potential problems with dental work and your natural teeth. As needed, he may repair the crown or recommend its replacement.
